President’s Report

The PABUG 2010 November Conference in Grantville was the culmination of a number of new initiatives with the purpose of facilitating communication between all constituents.

A big PABUG Thank You to our Conference Coordinators for organizing another well received conference for the 586 individual attendees. Monday’s attendance was 460 and Tuesday’s count was 330 including 20 SunGard Higher Education experts and 13 vendor companies. PABUG members from 28 of our 30 PA institutions and 88 attendees from non-PA schools joined the group.

Thank you to our Track Leaders, SunGard Higher Education and the participating vendors, who organized 99 timely and diverse sessions. Plan to send larger groups from your schools in 2011 to cover attendance in all presentations of interest to your institution.

Messiah’s Sakai LMS is the tool that we use to share documents, minutes and messages among the Conference Committee members.

The first Track Leader Retreat was held in March. Officers, Conference Coordinators and Track Leaders were encouraged to discuss suggestions for the November conference and direction for individual tracks. Productive question and answer sessions were a highlight of the day.

The SunGard Higher Education Summit PABUG BOF was turned into a Conference planning session by track after the President’s Report had concluded. This allowed for all attending track members to assist the Track Leaders to formulate presentation topics and to find presenters.

Meet and Greet sessions by track were added to the beginning of both the Monday and Tuesday Conference schedules at PABUG 2010. The track leaders and presenters, along with presentation details, were introduced to the members to help them to plan their day.

The PABUG History Slide Show was running during the conference day in the vendor exhibit room. Thank you to committee members for creating this document and continuing to keep it updated. Do you know how many PABUG volunteers have served from your institution from 1999 until today?

On-line Conference and Session Evaluation forms were coordinated using Google docs. Implementation of this tool has made the sharing of results a direct process.

The Technical and Luminis Track Leaders organized an event on June 7 and 8, 2010 which was held in the LaSalle University Metroplex Corporate Center in Plymouth Meeting. Presenters from SunGard Higher Education, Messiah College, Swarthmore College, Bucknell University, Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Hiram College filled the two day event with the sharing of valuable information. Excellent feedback was received from the 95 members attending this event.
